Southeast Asia’s offshore wind sector is gaining significant momentum, with countries across the region actively advancing policy frameworks, auctions and project development to tap into abundant coastal wind resources. Leading markets like the Philippines and Vietnam are taking early steps toward commercial offshore wind deployment, positioning the region as an increasingly attractive destination for investors, developers and technology partners in the clean energy transition.
The Philippines recently completed its first large‑scale offshore wind auction for 3.3 GW of seabed capacity, pushing wind power planning from concept toward reality with clear grid connection and port infrastructure guidelines. Meanwhile, Vietnam has updated its national power plan with ambitious goals to scale offshore wind capacity toward 17 GW by 2035, alongside streamlined marine zoning and permitting frameworks.
In addition to offshore progress, onshore wind energy is also poised for rapid expansion across Southeast Asia. Industry analysis projects the region’s onshore wind capacity could grow from roughly 6.5 GW today to around 26 GW by 2030, driven by supportive auctions, attractive feed‑in tariff policies and lowering technology costs.
These developments underline Southeast Asia’s increasing role in global renewable energy growth and the diverse opportunities emerging along the wind energy value chain — from turbine manufacturing and project development to O&M and grid integration.
