Cross-Border Wind Energy Cooperation Gaining Momentum in ASEAN

Date:2025-12-19

Recent developments highlight growing collaboration in the ASEAN wind energy sector. Companies from Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore have signed a tripartite agreement to explore exporting wind-generated electricity from Vietnam to Malaysia and Singapore via subsea transmission. Announced during the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on 26 May 2025, the initiative reflects increasing regional cooperation on wind power development and grid integration.

The joint feasibility study involves Vietnam’s PTSC, Malaysia’s Tenaga Nasional Berhad and PETRONAS, and Singapore’s Sembcorp Utilities. This collaboration marks a significant step in cross-border wind power trade and highlights the strategic importance of regional wind energy projects.
